Read the articles below to discover why incorporating Yoga practice to your training routines will benefits athletes of all ages and skills.

Yoga in Golf

7/12/2014

Golfers often complain of shoulder pain, back pain, stiffness in their necks or hips before a round of golf.   They will play through the pain and might still be able to shoot a mediocre score.  Just to go home, in pain, thinking if only my back wasn't so sore I would have shot a better score.

What if you could play with less pain, or without pain?  Many of the aches and pains we feel are caused by compression and pressure put on your body from every day activities: standing, sitting, hunching over a desk to look at a computer screen, or compensating for a different body part that is experiencing pain.   Yoga works to counter the stresses that are placed on your body during everyday life by stretching out your muscles, ligaments, and tendons that help to put your bones and muscles back to a more neutral position.

Yoga improves overall fitness strength, flexibility, balance, core strength, and cardiovascular fitness.   Regular Yoga practice gives you more mobility, flexibility, a clearer mind, and a greater focus.

Yoga can help golfers of all ages and abilities with their physical and mental game.  Maybe you are a weekend golfer who wants to work on your driving.  Yoga will give you more flexibility so your body can have more rotation giving you more torque when you tee off, resulting in a longer drive.  Or maybe you are a amateur golfer looking to increase your ability to focus to help you qualify for the next tournament.  Yoga teaches you how to be better connected with your mind, breathing, and physical body giving you a mental edge over your competitors.

Many golfers do not stretch or warm up their bodies properly before playing a round of golf.  Learning how to properly do some simple stretches before a round of golf could improve your flexibility and get your body properly warmed up before playing your round and will help prevent injury.

The Yoga Connection offers specific Yoga classes for golfers that target specific muscle groups that will benefit your golf game including the thighs, hips, buttocks, and back.

Classes are typically an hour and fifteen minutes long and include a warm up and a cool down period.  Classes will be designed on an individual basis depending on the player's desired outcome.  Chair, wall, or floor mat classes, or a combination of the three styles are available depending on the player's comfort and skill level.

Private or small group instruction lessons are available.  Please call (951) 415-6903 to schedule an appointment.
